Metaphor is a wonderful thing. It possesses remarkable and profound power in such a simple package. But as with anything, it is subject to abuse and sometimes it usage degrades that which it is supposedly helping.
I say that because, the eternal week and a half, since the University of Alabama (peace be upon them) coaching search has commenced, there has a been a barrage of really bad metaphors. The most infuriating is the mixed metaphor. Listen folks, the Alabama football programs does not need to "hit a home run." with their next hire. Mal Moore will not "strike out" nor do the Board of Trustees need to "step up to the plate."

What's wrong with scoring a touchdown, or throwing a pass, or as this years team became accustomed to, kicking a field goal. Why do we need to bring in references to something less pure to describe the incomparable glory of football. I call for an immediate cessation to all baseball imagery as it relates to Alabama football and its future head coach. The only metaphor we need to be concerned with is
I'm glad to see someone else is tired of the wrong metaphors being used evreywhere! Now all we need to do is get metaphors out of the NCAA and DC and life will be easier on all of us!
