If you haven't seen the story of Jason McElwain yet then you need to get out from under your rock. I have seen several stories, but I recommend the one narrated by Steve Hartman of CBS news. If you can't find it search for Austistic's Teen's Hoop Dreams on the CBS news website.
I am not sentimental by nature, but you can't help for get a little choked up watching this story. Having watched this story on several different channels, I have decided that the thing that most moves me is not the fact that someone with a disability did something great, but the sheer exuberance of those who were there had in being apart of it.
Watch the fans, the teamates, as each one of those three pointers falls into the basket. There was unbridled celebration for the accomplishments of someone else. How great it is to be able to share someone else's joy. Personally, I find it easier to weep with someone that is struggligng that it is to rejoice at someone else's success. To celebrate when someone excels and you did not or to revel in someone's triumph when you lost, that can be tough stuff.
Perhaps the joy at the high school was simply because of the obstacles that he had to overcome, but wouldn't it be wonderful if we could share the joy of others when they obstacles are not near so visbile. Regardless of the reasons, the joy was authentic and contagious. So Jason, well done! Not for making so many shots, but for making us feel so good.
